Prathistapana by Sri 108 Varadendra Swamigalu in the year 1783 (fifth Mruttika Brindavana)
Sri Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated to commemorate the birthday of Lord Krishna in Dwapara Yuga, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, which was pre-determined by a cosmic scheme designed for the welfare of the mand-kind.
Sri Raghavendra Swamy was a great devotee of Lord Krishna. Sri Rayaru sang his one of the greatest song ‘Indu Enage Govinda’ upon seeing the Idol of Krishna at Udupi. Later, in the year 1671, Sri Raghavendra Swamy asked his followers to construct a Brindavan around him at Manthralayam. He sat there playing on the veena and started singing the said song in ‘Bhairavi’ raga, invoking Lord Krishna to dance in front of him. Gradually, he started controlling his breath and a Brindavan was getting constructed around him placing 300 Vishnu Saligramas over his head. One of his disciples Sri Appannacharya was late in reaching that place, by which time the Brindavan was completely formed. As Sri Appannacharya was so sorrow-stricken, he could not complete a sloka, which he was trying to chant infront of Brindavana. Then the Swami, from inside the Brindavana, prompted him with the words, `Sakshi Hayatsothruhi.
It is a great occasion to do the ‘smarana’ of Sri Raghawendra Sway on the auspicious day of Sri Krishna Janmashtami.
